Human Power Team

Human Power Team Delft & Amsterdam was founded in 2010 with the objective to break the world speed record for human powered vehicles. For this purpose, students from Delft University of Technology and VU University Amsterdam develop and race highly aerodynamic recumbent bicycles.

Ambition became reality in September 2013, when Sebastiaan Bowier reached a top speed of 133.78 km/h in the VeloX 3, during the World Human Powered Speed Challenge in Battle Mountain (Nevada, U.S.). This is the fastest any human being has travelled solely on its own power, ever.

At this moment, the team is developing the VeloX V, the fifth (and fastest) iteration in our high-tech line of racing machines. This in aspiration of a new world speed record, both for men and women. This is a truly multidisciplinary challenge: the technological portion is being taken care of at TU Delft, while the VU Amsterdam provides driver selection and training. This close collaboration makes us unique among the student teams.
